Can you please check with Stefan Schubert, they replaced update-alternatives with libalternatives, i'm not convinced removing it entirely is the correct solution especially if people are working on eventually removing update-alternatives from SLE.

The bcond has bee removed by https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/960278 - Drop conditionals for old obsolete versions of openSUSE. So thats the main reason why libalternatives/update-alternatives is broken. The question is why it has been removed. If there is a valid reason for it, Fabian's fix would be OK and libalternatives would be used only. So Simon, could you please ask the author of this SR (Bjørn Lie) what has been the reason for it ? I am still searching the needinfo button which we have in bugzilla too :-) Thank you !

The reasoning was that update-alternatives should no longer be needed. This version (of dbus) should only support libalternatives and only users already on TW (that already have moved on to libalternatives) would ever install this one.

That was my reasoning - now granted I see now that I left some bits behind. Things like that, is supposed to be catched in the process, either in the sub to devel, or the sub from devel to Factory.

Note that this fixes a critical bug (in combination with a different issue I think), so if u-a support needs to be restored, that should happen in a separate SR
