Just to make it clear: calling meson_build would always have been mandatory
just in old times, meson_install called an implicit rebuild if the build was not done before.
similar to what make install does (which does not make it right) :)
Ah, thanks for the explanation. I must have copied from a bad example when I created the initial package.
