@tbechtold: another fix for this is just 'export LANG=en_US.UTF8' I wonder if we should not just add that to rpm macros and be done with it. or we could change the LC_ALL=C in rpm configuration to be LC_ALL=C.UTF8 and everything should keep working...

Just add it to the rpm macros please :)
It needs to be backported to all the older releases, too. Otherwise it's (at least for now) useless. But will help for future versions of course
Well python-rpm-macros updates are fairly trivial so i am all for bumping it :) But I will first look if we could change the build behaviour to by default consider utf.
