Note that ext_man is not defined for all OBS targets; see https://build.opensuse.org/project/prjconf/home:jayvdb:readline for workarounds needed.
Also, the added command will also work without
-r:Happy to change, if that is preferred.
I have added a note about ext_man to https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_cross_distribution_howto#Install_man_files
Hmmm ... maybe soemthing like
%if ! %{defined ext_man} %define ext_man .gz %endif
might help here
