Hi, you may find that the submission request superseeds the 757472 and 895776. It's ok. Why is it so? The short answer is, the old hawk is bad, the new one is good. But why the old is bad? It doesn't work, it's never been in production, and it's hopelessly obsolete and diverged. And what is good about the new hawk? In short, It works and it's green. It's basically the healthy master branch that we use in sle15 and leap15. I made the least changes to enable it in tumbleweed.

+Obsoletes:      hawk <= 1.1.0
+Provides:       hawk = %{version}

why not simply replace / update the actual hawk package then and call this one hawk2?

I wanted to make as few changes in the stable hawk as possible. I took as a base the same file as https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/openSUSE:Leap:15.5:Update/hawk2/hawk2.spec?expand=1 and added the necessary changed. How would you propose to change it technically?

Yap, I have created another request https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1087554

@dimstar let's merge it?)

I still think this should be called hawk, not hawk2. It is only a continuation and version upgrade, not a fork

Aleksei Burlakov's avatar

@dimstar, it's a fair point, it's just that the hawk has always and everywhere been the hawk2 , (for example here https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Leap:15.0:Update/hawk2 or here https://build.suse.de/package/show/SUSE:SLE-15:GA/hawk2 or anywhere)

  • hawk2 was created under ambiguous rules in 2015 (so, there's the reason to grant an exception to package naming)
  • hawk2 was deleted from Factory in 2021 (and there's the “revocation” of the grant :-p )

can't reopen from my side (OBS won't let me)
