I don't like the %fdupes to be run. It caused problems in the past, like when duplicate files that were symlinks (because of %fdupes) are then replaced by directories. It also doesn't save us much here. Replacing a tiny file with a symlink is essentially a no-op.
Can you please remove the %fdupes usage?
fdupes creates hardlinks (fdupes -s would create symlinks, which can be problematic)
I haven't looked at the savings, so your other point might be still valid.
