Information from applications consistently on the panel
The indicator applet exposes Ayatana Indicators in the MATE Panel.
Ayatana Indicators are an initiative by Canonical to provide crisp and clean system and application status indication.
They take the form of an icon and associated menu, displayed (usually) in the desktop panel.
Existing indicators include the Message Menu, Battery Menu and Sound menu.

When I add 'indicator-applet-complete' to the mate panel it just says 'No Indicators'. I assume additional packages are needed for this and wondering if able to package them all together to get an experience similar to ubuntu-mate?
Indeed, they're just a pain to package. It's the ayatana-indicator-* packages in X11:Unity.
You need ayatana-indicator-* packages where * is one of session, power, printers, sound, datetime, notifications, display, etc.
We are currently working on providing these in the X11:Unity project here on OBS.
