Involved Projects and Packages

This package is based on the package 'smalltalk' from project 'openSUSE:Factory'.

GNU Smalltalk is an implementation that closely follows the
Smalltalk-80 language as described in the book `Smalltalk-80: the
Language and its Implementation' by Adele Goldberg and David Robson.

For a complete explanation of Smalltalk there is a very nice tutorial.
Try the command: "info gst".

hddtemp is a small utility that gives you the temperature of your hard drive by reading S.M.A.R.T. informations (for drives that support this feature).

Note: only recent hard drives have a temperature sensor.

The temperature information seems to be vendor specific (i.e. not standardized). So hddtemp comes with a file (hddtemp.db) that contains informations about drives that were reported to work with hddtemp.

IMAPFilter is a mail filtering utility. It connects to remote mail
servers using the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), sends
searching queries to the server and processes mailboxes based on the
results. It can be used to delete, copy, move, flag, etc. messages
residing in mailboxes at the same or different mail servers. The 4rev1
and 4 versions of the IMAP protocol are supported.

IMAPFilter uses the Lua programming language as a configuration and
extension language.

Capabilities are a measure to limit the omnipotence of the superuser.
Currently a program started by root or setuid root has the power to do
anything. Capabilities (Linux-Privs) provide a more fine-grained access
control. Without kernel patches, you can use this library to drop
capabilities within setuid binaries. If you use patches, this can be
done automatically by the kernel.

OpenNTPD is a FREE, easy to use implementation of the Network Time
Protocol. It provides the ability to sync the local clock to remote NTP
servers and can act as NTP server itself, redistributing the local
clock.

Unlike xntp, it provides privilege separation and the ability to not
listen on remote-accessible sockets for improved security.

rsnapshot is a filesystem snapshot utility for making backups of local
and remote systems. Using rsync and hard links, it is possible to keep
multiple, full backups instantly available. The disk space required is
just a little more than the space of one full backup, plus
incrementals. Depending on your configuration, it is quite possible to
set up in just a few minutes. Files can be restored by the users who
own them, without the root user getting involved. There are no tapes to
change, so once it's set up, you may never need to think about it
again.
