An educational math tutorial game starring Tux, the Linux Penguin.

Based on the classic arcade game "Missile Command," Tux must defend his cities. In this case, though, he must do it by solving math problems. Tux Math offers fun math drill intended for children ~4-10 years of age. It begins with simple number typing for kids just learning the keyboard, and advances through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Negative numbers, "missing number" questions (e.g. "2 + ? = 8"), and questions with multiple operators are supported.

Starting with the 1.7 series, Tux Math includes "Factoroids", a factoring video game patterned after the arcade classic "Asteroids".

Tux Math uses GNU gettext for internationalization and includes a large number of translations.

TuxMathScrabble is a math version of the classic word game "Scrabble" (Trademark of Hasbro,Inc) which challenges kids to construct compound equations and to consider multiple abstract possibilities. There are four skill levels for practice, from basic addition with small numbers, through multiplication and division with larger numbers. The game can be played by 0, 1 or 2 human players. Player submissions are made by dragging tiles to the gameboard and pressing the "okay" button when ready to be validated. Invalid submissions are thrown-back to the user's tray. Several new features have recently been added, such as the ability to shuffle player tiles in-place, the programatic creation of tiles on-the-fly (as opposed to using images), configurable tile transparency, the ability to use a background image, and the option of configuring the "None" character for either/both players.

Tux Paint" is a drawing program for young children. It has a simple
interface and fixed canvas size, and provides access to previous images
using a thumbnail browser (it provides no access to the underlying
filesystem).

Unlike popular drawing programs such as "The GIMP," it has a very
limited toolset. However, it provides a much simpler interface, and has
entertaining, child-oriented additions such as sound effects.

Maintainer

Tux Paint has a rich set of configuration options, controllable via
command-line options or configuration files. This configuration tool
provides a point-and-click interface for administrators to tailor
Tux Paint to suit the needs of their users.

For Teachers: Teachers will find the new Tuxtyping to be a more moldable tool they can use in there classrooms. It is easier now (and will become even easier) to group the types of exercises, words and characters into a lesson!

For Parents: Your kids will play for more than minutes now and learning all the time! Tuxtyping has lots of new toys to play with for them! (But don't let me catch you playing after the kids go to bed!)

For Kids: Tux is challenged with the task of protecting 9 cities! More challenging game play in all the games!

This package contains a database of French conjugation templates
and a list of more than 6000 regular and irregular French verbs
with their corresponding template. One can obtain the complete
conjugation for a verb from its infinitive form, and obtain the mode,
tense and person from a conjugated verb. The library comes with two
command-line tools named french-conjugator and french-deconjugator
(see their manual pages).

The Virtual Microscope is a NASA-funded project that provides simulated scientific instrumentation for students and researchers worldwide as part of NASA's Virtual Laboratory initiative. This site serves as home base for the Imaging Technology Group's contributions to that project—namely virtual microscopes and the multi-dimensional, high-resolution image datasets they view. Currently we provide 90 samples totaling over 62 gigapixels of image data. The Virtual Microscope, which is available for free download supports functionality from electron, light, and scanning probe microscopes, datasets for these instruments, training materials to learn more about microscopy, and other related tools. The project is open source and the code is available on Sourceforge.

This package is based on the package 'vym' from project 'openSUSE:Factory'.

VYM (View Your Mind) is a tool to generate and manipulate maps which
show your thoughts. Such maps can help you to improve your creativity
and effectivity. You can use them for time management, to organize
tasks, to get an overview over complex contexts, to sort your ideas
etc. Some people even think it is fun to work with such maps...

Xara Xtreme for Linux is a powerful, general purpose vector graphics program for Unix
platforms including Linux, FreeBSD and (in development) OS-X. Formely known as
Xara LX, it is based on Xara Xtreme for Windows, which is the fastest graphics
program available, period. The Xara Xtreme source code was made available
open-source in early 2006, and is being ported to Linux. This process is almost
complete and Xara Xtreme for Linux is available for download now.

This package is based on the package 'Xdialog' from project 'openSUSE:Factory'.

Xdialog is designed to be a drop-in replacement for the cdialog
program. It converts any terminal-based program into a program with an
X interface. The dialogs are easier to see and use and Xdialog adds
even more functionalities (help button+box, treeview, editbox, file
selector, range box, and much more).

CAS is an easy to use, general purpose Computer Algebra System, a
program for symbolic manipulation of mathematical expressions. It uses
its own programming language designed for symbolic as well as
arbitrary-precision numerical computations. The system has a library of
scripts that implement many of the symbolic algebra operations; new
algorithms can be easily added to the library. YACAS comes with
extensive documentation (320+ pages) covering the scripting language,
the functionality that is already implemented in the system, and the
algorithms we used.
